REMEC Rolls Out Mobile, Wireless Videoconferencing Unit

October 31, 2007

Wireless Videoconferencing Now Available

Videoconferencing at several Munson Healthcare System hospitals is now possible outside the dedicated REMEC rooms.

A portion of the $106,000 USDA grant received for REMEC bridge replacement in 2006 also went to the purchase of new wireless, mobile videoconferencing units from Polycom that can be wheeled in to an office or used for a medical consultation.

“With these new units, we can take video conferencing right in to a patient’s room,” said Resource Planner Lisa Corpe of REMEC. “For example, if a mother in one of the facilities with a wireless unit delivers a baby and the father is stationed abroad, we could videoconference from the mother’s room.”

Units consist of a wheeled medical grade mobile cart with a video processor, monitor, camera and wireless router.

The units were sent this week to Kalkaska Memorial Health Center, Mercy Hospital Cadillac, Mercy Hospital Grayling, and Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital. Munson has two units available for use.

To schedule a conference with a unit, or for more information, call REMEC at 231-935-7944.
